Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann’d:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
I found this poem written by Christiana Rossetti.
Today, I have reasons to reflect once again something I wrote in one of my notepads on the 9th of June, 2016. About this time last month, the death of a respected man had been announced and that news made me feel like I had been Jabbed. Interesting thing is, I did not even have a close relationship with this man. But, of course, virtues make you a model and the demise of our models leaves us with some kind of un-explainable emptiness.
Today again, the same feeling has been awakened. I read a quote in my teenage, paraphrased it states” If you want to be remembered when you die, write something people will remember or do something for people to write about”. I held on to that.
The Big Question:
What do you want people to remember when you pass on?
Everyone who cares, will leave notes for others to read. Notes saying how kind kind you were, how much impact you made in their lives, how you were a rainbow in their dark clouds, and every beautiful picture they can paint about you. Are we all going to have these notes sound so sweet and soothing?
Today, you are planting seeds that your future will reap. I do not know how to stay in grief over the death of loved ones. I would think of what is more important after death. ETERNITY.
You see, after your ‘perceived’ good works here on earth, where will you spend eternity?
We are still alive and grateful that we have all we have including the chance to do good, to be kind, to live humbly, to stay peaceful and to walk like Jesus, our Lord and master. Do well also to seize every opportunity you have to show great compassion on your neighbors, to say these magic words I love you. Reach out as much as you can and pray for one another. These also count, even if it is just a little.
I hope this message touches a heart.
I am your Friend,
I love you.
